Wood Planked Ceiling

Our new rustic home is coming together, and tonight, I want to share our Wood Planked Ceiling.

Wood Planked Ceiling

This is a picture of our living room.  This ceiling is made entirely out of walnut plants.  This photo was taken pretty early in the building process you can see the unfinished walls, and the wire hanging out of the ceiling.  What you also see is the HUGE BEAM that is at the entry of the living room.  This thing is HUGE, it took 6 big ole fellas to lift it up and place it, I am not sure where it came from, but we have had it forever!  It is old, and beat up, has old nails and nicks and scratches, this beam has been around the block a time or two, but is happy now, in it's forever home.

Here is a shot of the rest of the great room.  This ceiling is planked with a variety of wood, most of it light in color.  They are all various widths and lengths, we just used what we had, cutting and ripping them as we needed. My favorite planks are the ones with the pretty grain showing, you know the slightly imperfect ones, I love me some wonky plants.

Another shot, from early in the building process...why hello Mr. Recessed Light, shouldn't you be hidden IN the ceiling?

There, that is better!  This final shot is also a little teaser for my next post.  See those recessed lights, aren't they pretty?  They have custom rustic rings around them, I will share all about then in my next post. We are building a rustic house, and no cheap plastic rings will do for me.  And in the bottom left corner, that is our heat vent, also custom..and YES, I will share how Mr. Cookie Puzzle made them next time.
