Awesome Autism Awareness Ninja Cookies by Sugar and Stitches

How's it going everyone?
Nicole here, resident Cool Kid and all around AWESOME ninja from Sugar and Stitches. I was invited by  Kim, the equally AWESOME cookie ninja, to participate in her month long Autism Awareness blogging adventure. Like some of the other bloggers, I too have limited knowledge on the subject of autism. Other than the very heated debate about the possible causes of autism, my knowledge is limited.  So, I did some web snooping and found that:

  • Autism now affects 1 in 88 children and 1 in 54 boys
  • Boys are nearly five times more likely than girls to have autism
  • Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.
  • Autism costs a family $60,000 a year on average
  • Autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases

I was really unaware that boys where more likely to have autism than girls or that research funding was so low. Hopefully. with the wonderful Kim making us all more aware, that lack of funding will change.

In my search for more information I also learned about the spectrum and that there can be HUGE differences in the way autism presents it's self in people. Which lead me to ninjas. I know what you are thinking ... how in the world does that lead me to ninjas? But, if you know me, read my blog, or my Facebook page, you know ... that is really not a hard thing for me. EVERYTHING can be linked back to AWESOME COOL NINJAS. For example, there are so many different things people with autism and FAMILIES with autism have to deal with and fight for (which should not be the case) how could they NOT be ninjas? Which now leads me to my cookies.

My Awesome Autism Awareness Ninjas
*say that 3 times fast

Fighting to bring knowledge and awareness of autism to the forefront.

Stay Cool, Kids!
